Questions

Straight answers, including the ones that are still “not yet”

Everything customers ask the office most, grouped so you can find yours. Where something has not been confirmed we say so rather than filling the gap with a plausible sentence.

Looking for something specific to one service? The cruise, corporate, event and local journey pages each carry their own questions.

Booking and changes

Do I need an account to book?

No. A one-off booking needs a name, a mobile number and the journey details. Accounts exist for businesses that would rather be invoiced monthly than pay per trip, and are arranged by the office.

Can I book for someone else?

Yes, and it is common — parents booking for students, PAs booking for directors, families booking for relatives. Give us the traveller's own mobile number rather than yours, so the driver can reach the person actually standing on the pavement.

How do I change a booking?

Call the office on 01206 701701. Changes are not self-service, because a change to time or vehicle can affect whether a car is available at all — and that is a conversation, not a form. Every change is recorded against the original booking.

Will I get a confirmation?

You will be given a booking reference. Keep it: quoting it is the fastest way for the office to find your journey, particularly at four in the morning when you would rather not describe your address twice.

How late can I book?

As a private hire operator we can only take pre-booked work, so there is always some notice involved. For an airport run, book as far ahead as you can so the right vehicle is held for your time. For anything same-day, ring and ask — the answer depends on what is free.

Prices and payment

Is the price I see the price I pay?

Yes, for any route with a published fare. Those fares are a fixed list — a saloon to Stansted is £81.50, which is £80 for the journey plus the £1.50 booking fee that applies to every booking whichever way you pay. That total is what you are quoted and what you are charged, and there is no card fee, no surge and no fuel surcharge.

Why do some journeys say “Ask us” instead of a price?

Because there is no published fare for that combination yet, and this site will not display a number it cannot honour. Rather than estimating from a per-mile rate, the booking form routes those journeys to the office and somebody prices the real route.

Do you charge extra for early mornings, bank holidays or Christmas?

The published fares do not vary by time of day or date. If that ever changes it will change on the price list, in public, and not as a line added at the end of a journey.

Is the fare per person or per vehicle?

Per vehicle. Four people in a saloon pay the saloon fare between them, which is what makes booking the right size vehicle worth doing properly.

What extras might be added?

Only ones named before you book: child seat at £4.50, extra large bag at £2.50, extra cabin bag at £2.50. The child seat is charged per seat. The bag charges apply only above the number of bags included with the vehicle you choose, and never to a wheelchair, a mobility aid or an assistance dog. Nothing is added on the doorstep.

How do I pay?

Card. The exact options are shown before you confirm anything, and no fee is added for using one. Business accounts are invoiced instead.

Can I get a receipt or a VAT invoice?

A receipt, yes — ask the office and it will be sent. Whether a VAT invoice can be issued depends on the firm's VAT position, which is being confirmed; the office will tell you exactly what it can provide.

Airports and flights

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Give us your flight number when you book, and call the office as soon as you know about a change — the line is answered 24 hours, every day. Automatic flight tracking is not in place yet, so the phone call is what moves your pickup. We would rather tell you that than let you assume we are watching the board.

Do you monitor flights automatically?

Not currently. It is a service we intend to offer and the booking already records your flight number, but it is not live, so nothing on this site claims it. Until it is, a call from you is what triggers a change.

How long will the driver wait at arrivals?

Waiting-time allowances are being confirmed and are not published yet. Ask the office when you book and you will be told what applies to your journey — including what happens if you are held up at baggage reclaim.

Where will the driver meet me at the airport?

Confirm this with the office when you book. Meeting arrangements differ between terminals, and whether a driver comes into the terminal or meets you at a designated pickup area is not something we want to describe wrongly on a web page.

Which airports do you cover?

Stansted, Southend, London City, Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton have published fares, along with Southampton cruise port and central London. Other airports can be quoted by the office.

Vehicles and luggage

How do I know which vehicle to book?

Count your large cases, not just your passengers. A saloon seats 4 but takes 2 large cases; an estate or MPV seats 6 and takes 4; a minibus seats 8. It is almost always the luggage that decides.

Can I request a specific make or model?

No. We book a category — saloon, estate or MPV, minibus — because the specific car that runs your job depends on what is licensed, tested and available on the day. Promising a particular model would be a promise we could not keep.

What if I turn up with more luggage than I booked for?

The driver can only take what the vehicle safely holds, and an overloaded boot is a licensing matter as well as a safety one. If you are near a limit, book the next size up — it costs less than a second vehicle at short notice.

Are child seats available?

Availability is still being confirmed, so it is not advertised as a certainty here. There is a child seat charge on the price list, so ask the office when you book and you will get a straight answer for your date.

Can I bring a pushchair, golf clubs or skis?

Usually, but tell the office when you book so the right vehicle is sent. Bulky items take the space of a large case, and that changes which category you need.

Accessibility and requirements

Do you have wheelchair-accessible vehicles?

Availability is not confirmed and so is not advertised. Please call the office and ask before relying on it. The booking system will refuse to send a vehicle that is not wheelchair-accessible to a booking marked as needing one, so an honest answer at the booking stage matters.

I am travelling with an assistance dog.

Tell us when you book. Assistance dogs travel, and recording it on the booking means the driver knows before they arrive rather than at the kerb.

I need help with steps or getting into the car.

Note it on the booking or mention it on the phone, and be specific about what would help. The site records step-free requirements against the journey so they reach the driver.

Is there an accessibility statement for this website?

Yes — see the accessibility page. It covers how the site is built and how to tell us if something on it does not work for you.

About the firm

Are you a taxi or a private hire firm?

Private hire. Every journey must be pre-booked through the office; we cannot be hailed in the street or picked up from a rank. It is why a booking record exists for every journey we run.

Are your drivers licensed and checked?

Every driver holds a council-issued private hire driver licence and every vehicle a private hire vehicle licence. Beyond that, this system refuses to assign a job to a driver whose badge or DVLA licence, or a vehicle whose plate, MOT or insurance, expires before the date of that journey.

How long have you been trading?

Since 2008, from Colchester.

Where is your operator licence number?

It will be published on this site once confirmed with Colchester City Council. It is not shown as a placeholder in the meantime, because a wrong licence number on a taxi website is worse than none — and the previous site published a company registration number belonging to an unrelated business that was dissolved in 2016.

How do I make a complaint?

There is a complaints page setting out how to raise something and what happens next, including how to escalate to the licensing authority if we do not resolve it.

Still not answered?

The office is answered 24 hours, every day and would rather take the question than have you guess. Published fares start at £81.50 for a saloon.
